I'm a born cynic. I think it's in my genetic code, right next to the sarcasm. But let me just say that, last night, I think I felt the stirrings of what you people call hope.
In my year as a temporary kiwi, I finally got a good view of what the rest of the world thought of us. I think this is our chance to finally shine again, and to take our place on the world stage as a bright light of democracy and a vision of hope. Or whatever.
While I don't understand why Prop 8 passed and I have my own issues with the nasty campaigning that went on with that (Mormon Church, you're on notice for your slander -- get the fuck out of my state), I do feel hopeful for the first time in a long time.
And that should say something.
For change, for a better tomorrow, and for what we can finally (almost) call equality for all.
